I joined the board of Governors as a Parent governor in March 2018, and will have at least one child at Diggle School until 2023. I was inspired to stand for Parent Governor as I wanted to use my experience as a Finance Director and Charity trustee for the benefit of the school and it’s pupils. In addition, I also have a particular interest in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and / or Disability.
I enjoy working with the governors and staff of the school to help bring about the best outcomes for every Diggle School pupil.
Finance and Premises
I am pleased to have been appointed as a co-opted governor and member of the Curriculum and Standards Committee of Diggle School. Having taught at the school from 1994 to 2003 I know it well, although there have been many changes since I left.
When I retired from Oldham School Improvement Service I followed my passion for learning outdoors and trained as a Forest School Leader. I have spent the last few years working with a charity based in Slaithwaite delivering forest school and bush craft sessions to children and young people.
I look forward to working with the governors and staff to bring about the best possible outcomes for the children at Diggle School.
I am a recent elected Parent Governor and have joined the governing body at the same time as my son has entered reception so we are learning together. As I have another son due to start Diggle School in 2017, the next 8 years of my life will be focused on primary school life and it was that thought that inspired me to get involved with the governing body. I am on the Curriculum committee helping to ensure that every child in the school is receiving high quality and appropriate education allowing them to prepare for the next steps in their education. I am very excited to be joining the governing body at this time and hope to help lead the school onto further success.
I first became a Parent Governor in 1992 when both my children were pupils at Diggle School. Following my term as a Parent Governor, during which I was appointed Vice Chairman, I was asked to continue as a Community Governor. Some 12 years ago I was appointed Chairman and have worked with four Headteachers and seen the school through many changes. With the recent reconstitution of the Governing Body I became a Co-opted Governor and am a member of the Finance and Premises Committee. I continue to be committed to Diggle School and ensuring that the children can achieve their full potential in a safe, happy and caring environment.

Chair Of Governors
I was appointed a co-opted governor and member of the Finance & Premises committee on 11/02/16. I have lived in Diggle for over 35 years and am married with two sons and two young grandchildren. I am now retired from my career as a building services consulting engineer. I consider that the business experience gained during my career will serve the school well in financial and premises matters.

I am a local authority governor at the school, returning to the governing body in early 2016 having previously been a parent governor at Diggle School from 2010 to 2014. I am a member of the school Finance and Buildings committee. I have been involved actively with the school since 2009 when my eldest children joined the school. I am the father of Oliver Sleight (Year 6) and James (Year 3). I have seen many changes during my association with the school and am proud of the developments and achievements the school has made. However there is more still to do and I am delighted to return to the governing body to assist Mrs Newton and the other governors. My inspiration is to ensure the school not only remains the school of choice for parents in the local community, but assures every child has the best possible experience and reaches the highest standard of education. I am particularly keen the school delivers an up to date curriculum that best educates our children for their future, but concurrently maintains its commitment to local traditional values.
