Class 3 Teacher
Hello from Class 3
It has been lovely to welcome my new class back into school and even though things are very different this has not stopped us from learning and having lots of fun!
Our theme this term is Ancient Egyptians and as part of this we have been learning about daily life, comparing houses in Ancient Egypt to modern life. We made some bricks in the traditional Egyptian way, by stamping mud and straw together then drying them in a mould. Ours dried next to the radiator, not the sun ! We are pleased with our results.
Mud and straw Mixing it together with our feet (not barefoot) Our finished mixture Drying in the moulds
Our finished bricks
We looked at heiroglyphics and used them to make a cartouche of our name. We practiced on paper then used real papyrus paper.
We are reading a story ‘Egyptian Cinderella’ in which the main character is given a pair of shows to dance in. We designed our own shoes for Rhodopis.
In science, we have been investigating with magnets, finding out that they can attract and repel. We then investigated materials which were magnetic or not magnetic, recording our findings.
Investigating with magnets.
Investigating which materials are magnetic and which are not.
All the objects that were magnetic were metal, however, some metal objects were not magnetic. This had lead to questions that need further investigating…
Earlier in the term, we sketched leaves and plants from the playground. we are going to use these to make patterns later in the theme s the Ancient Egyptians used nature to inspire their patterns.
